Montecito Heights


Montecito Heights is a small residential community in the northeast section of Los Angeles. Monterey Hills is to the northeast, El Sereno is to the southeast, Mount Washington is to the northwest, and Highland Park is to the north. Lincoln Heights is to the southwest.  The Arroyo Seco seasonal river is the western boundary. The community includes the Ernest E Debs Regional Park. Downtown Los Angeles is only a few miles to the southwest. Montecito Heights is at the top of the Monterey Hills which divide the Los Angeles Basin from the San Gabriel Valley. Homes in Montecito Heights offer some of the best views available in the Greater Los Angeles Area. The population of Montecito Heights now exceeds 17,000.


Heritage Square Museum

Heritage Square Museum is an architecture museum located in the Montecito Heights community of Los Angeles in the southern Arroyo Seco area. The museum concentrates on the period from 1850 to 1950 in Los Angeles providing examples of some of the most beautiful and unique homes in Southern California.


Ernest E Debs Regional Park

The Ernest E Debs Regional Park is a 300 acre regional park and open space preserve in Montecito Heights located just west of Monterey Hills in the northeastern part of the City of Los Angeles. The park is located in the western San Rafael Hills and offers great views of the San Gabriel Mountains, the Arroyo Seco, Downtown Los Angeles, and much of the Los Angeles Basin. One hundred picnic tables, restrooms, and twenty barbeques are available. There are also hiking trails and a beautiful pond in the park.


Montecito Heights Improvement Association

The Montecito Heights Improvement Association is a non-profit voluntary membership association dedicated to protecting the history and beauty of Montecito Heights. The organization is governed by an elected board of directors and has been operating for more than twenty years.


Montecito Heights Recreation Center

The Montecito Heights Recreation Center, located in the Montecito Heights neighborhood of northeast Los Angeles, features volleyball courts, basketball courts, tennis courts, a children’s play area, an auditorium, a gymnasium, picnic tables, and lots of green open space with shade trees.


Palms – Southern Pacific Railroad Depot

The Palms – Southern Pacific Railroad Depot was built in 1888 in what is today the Palms section of Los Angeles. The historic depot was moved to Heritage Square in Montecito Heights in northeastern Los Angeles in 1976. The depo is at the entry to Heritage Square and houses an excellent museum gift shop. The beautiful structure is a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument and is definitely worth visting.
