Redondo Beach, incorporated in 1892, is an affluent city in the
South Bay region of Los Angeles County with a population estimated at 67,500.
Hawthorne is to the north, Lawndale is to the east.
Hermosa Beach is to the north and west,
Torrance is to the east and south, and the Pacific Ocean is to the west.
Santa Monica is approximately 19 miles up the
coast to the northwest.
Beach Cities (Region)
The Beach Cities are Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, and Redondo Beach which face Santa Monica Bay which is part of the Pacific Ocean. The Beach Cities are southwest of Downtown Los Angeles, and make up a part of the South Bay.
Rancho San Pedro
Rancho San Pedro was the 75,000-acre Spanish land grant given in 1784 in present day Los Angeles County that included San Pedro, the Palos Verdes Peninsula, Torrance, Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, Lomita, Harbor City, Gardena, Wilmington, Compton, Carson, and parts of Paramount and Long Beach.
