Thousand Oaks, California


Thousand Oaks is an affluent city in southeast Ventura County. It is known to have one of the lowest crime rates in the U.S. for cities over 100,000 population. The population of Thousand Oaks was 126,683 at the 2010 census. The city is located within the Conejo Valley adjacent to Westlake Village, Oak Park and other areas of unincorporated Ventura County including Lynn Ranch and part of Dos Vientos Ranch. Newbury Park is a community that is partially located within Thousand Oaks and partially located in the unincorporated area of Ventura County. Portions of Thousand Oaks are located on the northern slopes of the Santa Monica Mountains. The 225 acre campus of California Lutheran University (CLU), or Cal Lutheran, is located in Thousand Oaks. Enrollment in the undergraduate and graduate programs is nearly 4,000 students. The city is also home to the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza and The Oaks Shopping Center.

Conejo Creek Equestrian Park

The Conejo Creek Equestrian Park is a 51.1 acre equestrian facility located in Thousand Oaks. There is one main arena and several smaller pens and arenas, plus a 3.5 acre dog park.


Conejo Valley Botanic Garden

The Conejo Valley Botanic Garden consists of 18 unique gardens on 33 acres in Thousand Oaks. The Garden is located in the center of Thousand Oaks adjacent to Conejo Community Park. There is no entry fee.


Conejo Chinese Cultural Association

The Conejo Chinese Cultural Association (CCCA) is a non-profit volunteer organization that sponsors the Conejo Chinese School which offers Chinese language classes every Saturday at Thousand Oaks High School. More than 650 students attend in 33 classrooms. The CCCA also organizes and sponsors educational, cultural, and recreational activities. The most important CCCA event is the annual New Year celebration show held at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza each year. Performances have included singers, dancers, music, and acrobats. The CCCA is a member of the Arts Council of the Conejo Valley.


Thousand Oaks Chinese School

The Thousand Oaks Chinese School, founded in 1975, operates Saturdays at Thousand Oaks High School in the Conejo Valley. In addition to Chinese language classes, the school offers a variety of cultural programs and activities. More than 600 students are enrolled.


Conejo Valley Genealogical Society

The Conejo Valley Genealogical Society, founded in 1979, is a non-profit educational organization in Westlake Village which is in the central Conejo Valley. Its goals are to encourage genealogical research and to educate its members in effective genealogical research skills. Membership are available.


Conejo Valley Adult School

Conejo Valley Adult School is a public Adult School in Thousand Oaks accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Programs offered include: English as a Second Language (ESL), Medical Certificate Programs, Spanish, SAT Preparation, and more. Conejo Valley Adult School is part of the Conejo Valley Unified School District.


Sunset Hills Country Club

Sunset Hills Country Club is a member owned private golf, tennis, and fitness club located in the rolling hills of Thousand Oaks in Ventura County. The 18 hole championship golf course was designed by golf course architect Ted Robinson.


Los Robles Greens Golf Course

The Los Robles Greens Golf Course is an 18 hole public golf course owned by the City of Thousand Oaks. It was designed by Bob E. Baldock and developed in 1964. It is known for its giant oak trees, many of which existed before Columbus arrived in America.


Conejo Players Theatre

Conejo Players Theatre was established in 1958, and after several expansions, it now has a 185 seat theater in Thousand Oaks. Conejo Players Theatre offers the Conejo Valley full-length plays, comedies, musicals, and children’s plays throughout the entire year. It is a first class operation.


New West Symphony - Thousand Oaks

The New West Symphony, established in 1995, is the professional, resident orchestra of the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, the Oxnard Performing Arts Center, and Santa Monica’s Barnum Hall. The Symphony presents six Masterpiece series concerts annually, performing major works.


Conejo Valley Days - Thousand Oaks

Conejo Valley Days in an annual celebration of the Conejo Valley’s history. It is a family event lasting four days each year and has been going strong for nearly 60 years. Conejo Valley Days includes live entertainment, carnival rides, games, food, arts and crafts, exhibits, local vendors, community organizations, and lots of family fun. Most importantly it provides a means for charities and community organizations to earn money for many worthwhile projects that benefit both the community and people in need. Conejo Valley Days takes place at Conejo Creek Park South in Thousand Oaks usually during the month of May.


Hillcrest Center for the Arts

Thousand Oaks

The Hillcrest Center for the Arts is the center of arts activities in Thousand Oaks and the Conejo Valley. The center is owned by the City of Thousand Oaks, staffed by the Conejo Recreation and Park District, and is located on the hill overlooking The Oaks Mall in Thousand Oaks and much of the Conejo Valley. The Arts Council of the Conejo Valley is located at the center which is also home to many other organizations including Hillcrest Players, Classics in the Park, Thousand Oaks Actors Guild, Young Artists Ensemble, Ventura County Gilbert & Sullivan Repertoire Company, Buckles and Bows, and Conejo Valley Scottish Dance Society.


Theatre on the Hill

Theatre on the Hill is a 112 seat theater in Thousand Oaks which is part of the Hillcrest Center for the Arts. It is the home of Young Artists Ensemble which produces an annual Family Theatre Season plus Teen Summer Musicals. Opportunities are provided for hundreds of young artists between the ages of 10 and 19 to perform well known musicals and plays on a very professional level.


Theater League - Thousand Oaks

The Theater League, founded in 1976, is a non-profit performing arts organization that brings live professional shows to the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza each year. Generally, the League makes season tickets available for four shows at a time. Members of the League receive discounts on tickets, priority seating, access to the best seats, dining discounts, and more.


Arts Council of the Conejo Valley

The Arts Council of the Conejo Valley, established in 1969, located in Thousand Oaks, is a membership support organization that promotes the community’s cultural development by co-sponsoring numerous cultural programs and assisting local cultural organizations with marketing, technical assistance, and reduced rent at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts.


Gypsy Players – Gypsy Productions

Gypsy Production presents unique dinner entertainment events in Simi Valley, Palmdale, and Thousand Oaks. Each dinner involves the audience participating in an interactive murder mystery dinner theater event.


Thousand Oaks Community Center

The Thousand Oaks Community Center is located on a 35.8 acre site and includes a full size gym, soccer and baseball fields, sports courts, racquetball courts, picnic areas, and meeting rooms that can be reserved.


Conejo Valley Youth Orchestras

Conejo Valley Youth Orchestras (CVYO) was founded in 1961 at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks. Its program develops and enhances the music education of local students and provides a symphonic orchestral music experience as a supplement to the music education provided by the Conejo Valley Public Schools. The Conejo Valley Youth Orchestras is home to three orchestras and has more than 250 students ranging in age from 5 to 21. CVYO performs at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza twice each year. All of the board members of the organization are local volunteers.


Goebel Adult Community Center

Thousand Oaks Senior Center

The Goebel Adult Community Center, sometimes referred to as the Thousand Oaks Senior Center or the Goebel Senior Center, was named after Louis Goebel who generously donated the land for the first senior center to be constructed in Thousand Oaks. The newer, more modern facility is 21,000 square feet and has meeting rooms, a television room, kitchen, restrooms, billiards room, computer lab, horseshoe pits, putting green, numerous clubs, table tennis, exercise classes, bingo, cards, free seminars, excursions, and many other planned activities.


Thousand Oaks Teen Center

The Thousand Oaks Teen Center, established in 1989, is located adjacent to the Thousand Oaks Library and is a place for drop-in adult supervised recreation for children in the 7th to 12th grades. The 10,000 square foot facility features a gym, music room, computer lab, game room, ping pong, pool tables, arcade games, and TV room. Programs include educational workshops, sports camps, leagues, excursions, dances, live concerts, and other organized activities. The hours of operation change based on the school year.


Conejo Recreation & Park District - Thousand Oaks

The Conejo Recreation & Park District (CRPD) was formed in 1963 and is located in Thousand Oaks. The district currently administers more than 3,000 recreation and leisure programs each year in the area that includes Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, and the Ventura County section of Westlake Village. CRPD maintains 28 neighborhood parks, 5 larger community parks, and 6 sports fields. CRPD publishes a quarterly program guide describing its programs for seniors, adults, teens, and young children.


Conejo Valley Shakespeare Society

The Conejo Valley Shakespeare Society (CVSC) is a volunteer organization in Thousand Oaks that serves the entire Conejo Valley. Its purpose is to educate and inspire the love of Shakespeare in the residents of the Conejo Valley. The CVSC is a member of the Arts Council of the Conejo Valley.


Thousand Oaks Art Association

The Thousand Oaks Art Association (TOAA) is the oldest art membership group in the Conejo Valley. TOAA supports artists by providing them an opportunity to exhibit their work at its 3,000 square foot gallery in Newbury Park known as the Thousand Oaks Community Gallery. TOAA is a non-profit organization governed by an elected board of directors and is a member of the Arts Council of the Conejo Valley.


Thousand Oaks Community Art Gallery

The Thousand Oaks Community Art Gallery, established in 1991, is a 3,000 square foot gallery that showcases diversified visual arts, provides various workshops, and sponsors special events throughout each year. The gallery is located next to the library in the Newbury Park section of Thousand Oaks. Art is available for sale.


Thousand Oaks Arts Festival

The Thousand Oaks Arts Festival is an annual arts festival held in Thousand Oaks at the Civic Arts Plaza and adjacent Lakes Shopping Center each year. It is the only major art show in the Conejo Valley highlighting more than sixty local artists. There is no admission charge and parking is free. It is an absolutely great show.


Thousand Oaks Philharmonic

The Thousand Oaks Philharmonic, formally known as Concertos with Orchestra Thousand Oaks (CWOTO), was established in 2000 as a non-profit educational organization, with its primary purpose being to provide top piano students in the Conejo Valley with an opportunity to be featured as soloists with a professional orchestra. The Thousand Oaks Philharmonic is a member of the Arts Council of the Conejo Valley.


Conejo Creek North Park

Conejo Creek North Park is a 44 acre natural creekside park with two ponds connected to a recirculating meandering stream. It is next to the Thousand Oaks Library and the Goebel Adult Community Center in central Thousand Oaks. It is one of the most popular parks in the Conejo Valley. The park has covered picnic tables that can be reserved for parties of all sizes since the park has a capacity of several thousand visitors.


Arroyo Conejo – Ventura County

The Arroyo Conejo, also known as Rabbit Creek, is the primary drainage for Thousand Oaks in the Conejo Valley. The creek originates in the Conejo Valley in Newbury Park and then flows through Thousand Oaks, Camarillo, and the Santa Rosa Valley where it merges with the Arroyo Santa Rosa which flows into Conejo Creek. Conejo Creek flows into Mugu Lagoon, in Ventura County, at the far north end of Santa Monica Mountains.


Triunfo Park

Triunfo Community Park

Triunfo Community Park is a large popular park located in the Westlake area of Thousand Oaks at the north end of Triunfo Canyon Road. The park features tennis courts, volleyball courts, baseball fields, softball fields, soccer fields, picnic facilities, a large children's play area, and lots of beautiful open space. Triunfo Park provides direct access by means of the Triunfo Canyon Trail to the Los Robles Trail where views of the Conejo Valley are quite spectacular.


Southshore Hills Park - Thousand Oaks

Southshore Hills Park is a 4 acre neighborhood park in the Westlake area of Thousand Oaks, just west of Westlake Lake in Ventura County. The park features a children's play area, picnic tables, barbeques, basketball courts, a baseball field, and plenty of open space.


Old Meadows Park - Thousand Oaks

Therapeutic Advisory Council

Old Meadows Park is a 31 acre park in Thousand Oaks and home to the Therapeutic Recreation Unit of the Conejo Valley Therapeutic Advisory Council. The Council is comprised of parents and professionals who meet monthly with staff to discuss and support programs for people with disabilities. The park has specialized play equipment, meeting rooms, soccer fields, and picnic areas.


Sunset Hills Park - Thousand Oaks

Sunset Hills Park is a 6 acre neighborhood park in the Sunset Hills area of Thousand Oaks, Ventura County. The park features picnic areas, barbeques, a children's play area, outdoor basketball courts, backstops, and lots of grass and shade trees.


Canada Park- Thousand Oaks

Canada Park is a 9 acre community park in the Sunset Hills area of Thousand Oaks just north of the Sunset Hills Country Club. The park features handball courts, basketball courts, tetherball, a children's play area, picnic tables, barbeques, and lots of shade trees and open space.


Evenstar Park - Thousand Oaks

Evenstar Park is a 4 acre neighborhood park in the Westlake area of Thousand Oaks in Ventura County, just northwest of Westlake Lake. The park features a baseball field, picnic tables, barbeques, a softball field, children's play area, and plenty of trees and open space.


Beyer Park

Beyer Park is a four acre neighborhood park in central Thousand Oaks adjacent to Conejo Elementary School near the Civic Arts Plaza. The park features basketball courts, handball courts, and tetherball. It also offers a softball field, a children's play area, picnic areas, and plenty of open space.


Waverly Park

Waverly Park is a six acre neighborhood park in Thousand Oaks located adjacent to the Conejo Valley Adult School. The park features a baseball field with bleachers, picnic tables, barbeques, restrooms, a children's play area, and lots of shade trees and green open space.


Spring Meadow Park

Spring Meadow Park is a seven acre neighborhood park located at the southwest corner of Olsen Road and Spring Meadow Road near California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks. The park features a croquet course, a fitness trail, basketball courts, backstops, picnic tables, a children's play area, and lots of shade trees and green open space.


Alex Fiore Playfield

The Alex Fiore Playfield is a nine acre park in northern Thousand Oaks consisting of four baseball fields with bleachers, basketball courts, a children's play area, restrooms, and lots of open space.


El Parque de la Paz

El Parque de la Paz is a five acre park located south of Thousand Oaks Boulevard between the Civic Arts Plaza and Hampshire Road in Thousand Oaks. The park is the site of the Crowley House, a five bedroom home built in 1910 for Frank and Mae Casey Crowley. It is now a historic landmark and is used by Conejo Valley Neighborhood for Learning (CVNFL) to promote school readiness and services for children up to the age of five. The park features basketball, a children's play area, picnic areas, restrooms, and lots of mature shade trees and open space.


Wildflower Playfield

Wildflower Playfield is a 19 acre park located in the Wildwood area of Thousand Oaks, near Wildwood Park. The popular park offers two basketball courts, four tennis courts, two soccer fields, two softball fields, picnic facilities, children's play areas, restrooms, and lots of green open space with mature shade trees.


Gardens of the World - Thousand Oaks

The Gardens of the World was a generous gift to the city of Thousand Oaks and everyone who visits the gardens, by Ed and Lynn Hogan, founders of the Hogan Family Foundation. The gardens are both a cultural contribution and educational tool. They are absolutely beautiful. While the gardens are not available to be used for private functions, they are sometimes made available for non-profit fundraising events for charitable causes. Gardens of the World are on Thousand Oaks Boulevard directly across from the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza.


Lang Ranch

Lang Ranch Park

Lang Ranch is a residential community in Thousand Oaks that is located east of where Avenida De Los Arboles intersects with Westlake Boulevard. There are several gated communities in Lang Ranch consisting of upscale single family detached homes, condominiums, and apartments. Many of the homes face Lang Ranch Community Park. Across from the park to the south and east is the Chumash Interpretive Center and Museum, the Oakbrook Regional Park, open space, and an extensive system of trails.


Kevington Thousand Oaks

Kevington is an older, upscale neighborhood in Thousand Oaks consisting primarily of custom, single family detached homes. The main entry is from Janss Road which turns into La Granada Drive at the intersection of Erbes Road. The neighborhood consists of the hillside homes between Erbes Road on the west and the Hillside Open Space area on the east. Many of the homes have excellent views of the Conejo Valley. Some of the homes at the top of the community have views that reach much of Ventura County all the way to the Pacific Ocean. The Kevington Homeowners Association is a non-profit membership organization formed in 1968.


Albertson Motorway

The Albertson Motorway is a trail and extension of Lang Ranch Parkway that begins in Thousand Oaks at the Chumash Museum-Interpretive Center and extends to the east through the Simi Hills. As it extends east, it passes Simi Peak and China Flat to the south and enters the north part of Cheeseboro Canyon and Palo Comado Canyon preserve before it turns north and becomes Meadow Vista Trail.


Oakbrook Vista Trail

The Oakbrook Vista Trail in Thousand Oaks begins less than one half mile east of Westlake Boulevard on Lang Ranch Parkway. The trail goes southwest for about one mile into Oakbrook Regional Park. The trail overlooks both the Lang Ranch development and Lang Ranch Open Space.


Indian Creek Trail

Indian Creek Trail is a short hiking trail that runs between Avenida de los Arboles, in Wildwood Park in Thousand Oaks, to Wildwood Canyon Trail. The trail follows and crosses Indian Creek and passes a small waterfall. Indian Creek joins the north fork of Arroyo Conejo. It is truly a beautiful place.


Thousand Oaks Boulevard Association

Thousand Oaks Redevelopment Agency

The Thousand Oaks Boulevard Association (TOBA) is a group of property owners dedicated to the enhancement of life in Thousand Oaks through revitalization of the Thousand Oaks Boulevard Corridor, which runs from Moorpark Road on the west to Westlake Boulevard on the east. Membership is limited to business and property owners fronting on Thousand Oaks Boulevard.


Summer Concerts in the Park

Every year the Conejo Recreation and Park District sponsors its Summer Concerts in the Park series at Conejo Community Park in Thousand Oaks. Past concerts have featured Elvis Music, Americana and Patriotic Music, Rock, Classical, Beach Boys Music, and more. The summer series are free, but donations are accepted. The concerts are always well attended.


Scandinavian Festival

Scandinavian American Cultural and Historical Foundation

The Scandinavian American Cultural and Historical Foundation (SACHF) operates the Scandinavian Center on the campus of California Lutheran College in Thousand Oaks. The Scandinavian Center contains an extensive collection of historical and cultural documents and artifacts, which are available for viewing by the public. The mission of the SACHF is to preserve and promote Scandinavian Heritage and Culture for the education and enjoyment of present and future generations. The SACHF is a sponsor of the annual Scandinavian Festival held each year in Thousand Oaks.


The Oaks Shopping Center

The Oaks Shopping Center is a two level indoor and outdoor regional shopping center located in Thousand Oaks which is part of the Conejo Valley and in Ventura County. The first class shopping center is home to more than 180 stores and services including the following anchors: Nordstrom, Macy's Women, Macy's Men, J.C. Penney and 14 Muvico Theaters. Other stores include Abercrombie & Fitch, Ann Taylor, Apple Store, BabyGap, Banana Republic, Cheesecake Factory, Forever 21, Gap, Levi's, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, The Children's Place, Victoria's Secret, Williams-Sonoma, and many others. The Oaks Mall also features a children's play area that is very popular.


Janss Marketplace

The Janss Marketplace is a major shopping center in central Thousand Oaks. It was the first major shopping center to be built in the Conejo Valley and is a very popular destination. Anchors include: Sears, Marshalls, 9 Regency Theatres, Toys R Us, and Nordstrom Rack. There are nearly 50 stores and services which include Buca di Beppo Italian Restaurant, Cold Stone Creamery, Conejo Valley Art Museum, Gold's Gym, Old Navy, Padavo Home Furnishings, Panera Bread, Rite Aid, Sharky's, the U.S. Post Office, and more.


Conejo Grade

The Conejo Grade, in Ventura County, is a steep 7% grade of the Ventura Freeway (U.S. 101) between Camarillo and the Oxnard Plain, and the Conejo Valley, including Thousand Oaks. The grade is just north of Conejo Mountain, also known as the Conejo Hills.


Mount Clef

Mount Clef is a small mountain or hill reaching 925 feet. It is part of the Mountclef Ridge that separates Thousand Oaks from the Santa Rosa Valley. California Lutheran University is located just south of Mount Clef. The neighborhood just to the east of Cal Lutheran is known as Mountclef Village.


Rancho El Conejo

Rancho El Conejo was the 48,572 acre Spanish land grant given in 1803 that included most of the area now known as the Conejo Valley which is located in southeastern Ventura County and northeastern Los Angeles County. Newbury Park, Thousand Oaks, part of Westlake Village and a portion of the Santa Monica Mountains and Simi Hills are located within the Rancho El Conejo boundaries established in 1803.


Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce

The Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce, established in 1939, has more than 1,100 members and serves the communities of Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village, Agoura Hills, Oak Park, and Newbury Park. In addition, the chamber has members from Woodland Hills, Camarillo, Ventura, Moorpark, Calabasas, Simi Valley, and many other surrounding communities.

The American Radio Archive was established by the Thousand Oaks Library Foundation in 1983 as a non-profit organization. The archive contains photographs, manuscripts, books, scripts, sound recordings and other materials that reflect the history of radio. It is one of the largest radio broadcasting collections in the world and is available to students and researchers. Donations are greatly appreciated.
