Venice is a beachfront community in the Westside section of Los Angeles located south of Santa Monica and north of Marina del Rey and Ballona Creek. The Santa Monica Airport is at the north end of the community and Culver City is to the east. Venice, which is on the Santa Monica Bay, is famous for its beaches, canals, boardwalk, and pier. Mar Vista and Palms are to the northeast. Venice, which has a population of over 42,000, was incorporated as a city in 1905, but was annexed to the City of Los Angeles in 1926.

Venice Canal Historic District
The Venice Canal Historic District is famous for its man-made canals constructed in 1905 by the developer of Venice in an attempt to recreate the appearance of Venice, Italy on the Westside of Los Angeles. The district was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. The district is located to the east of Pacific Avenue, south of S. Venice Boulevard, and to the northwest of Marina del Rey.
Venice Pier is located at the intersection of Ocean Front Walk (the Board Walk) and Washington Boulevard. It is a popular location for fishermen. The views of boats entering and leaving Marina del Rey harbor to the south are quite spectacular.
Venice City Beach
Venice Beach includes the beach, the boardwalk, world famous Muscle Beach, the handball and paddle tennis courts, the bike trail, and the volleyball courts. There is a fishing pier at the end of Washington Boulevard.
Venice Beach Boardwalk
The world famous Venice Beach Boardwalk extends approximately 1.5 miles along Venice Beach and the Santa Monica Bay. There are hundreds of street vendors, retail stores, arts and crafts, vendors, and all types of performers.
The Strand, renamed the Marvin Braude Bike Trail, is a paved bicycle path that runs along the Pacific Ocean shoreline in Los Angeles County. It starts at Will Rogers State Beach in the Los Angeles Community of Pacific Palisades and ends at Torrance County Beach in Torrance at the base of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Hills. The 22 mile bike path runs through Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica, Ocean Park, Venice, Playa del Rey, Marina del Rey, El Segundo, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, and Torrance. The midpoint is in Playa del Rey. The Strand is the most popular bike path in Southern California.
Penmar Recreation Center - Venice
The Penmar Recreation Center in Venice features an auditorium with a capacity of 250, lighted basketball courts, five lighted baseball diamonds, lighted handball courts, an indoor gym, six lighted tennis courts, a large children’s play area, a child care center, picnic tables, and plenty of trees and open space. The center is used for sports leagues, classes, workshops, and more. It is maintained and operated by the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks. The Penmar Municipal Golf Course is across the street. Both facilities are only one mile from the Pacific Ocean.
Canal Park also known as Linnie Canal Park is a small community park located at 200 Linnie Canal in Venice, California. The park features a pond and a children’s play area.
Triangle Park is a small community park located in Venice at the intersection of Oxford Avenue and Marr Street. The park features a children’s play area and unlighted, outdoor basketball courts.
Penmar Municipal Golf Course
The Penmar Municipal Golf Course is a 9-hole golf course owned and operated by the City of Los Angeles located in the community of Venice, near the Santa Monica Bay. It was designed by architect David Kent and opened in 1962. The Penmar Child Care Center and Penmar Recreation Center are located across the street. The course is beautifully landscaped.
Venice of America House
The Venice of America House is a Victorian house built in 1906 that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. The lankmark building is quite beautiful and is both the first and oldest building constructed by Abbot Kinney in Venice.
Warren Wilson Beach House
The Warren Wilson Beach House, also known as The Venice Beach House, built in 2011, is a classic craftsman style home in the Los Angeles community of Venice. The property, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986, has been used as both a camp and residence over the years.
Venice Historical Society
The Venice Historical Society is a non-profit volunteer membership organization dedicated to preserving the history of Venice. The historical society offers walking tours of Venice, lectures, and films.
West Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce
The West Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, established in 1945, serves its member businesses in West Los Angeles and the surrounding communities, including Santa Monica, Marina del Rey, Venice, Pacific Palisades, Beverly Hills, and Culver City.
Venice Japanese Community Center
The mission of the Venice Japanese Community Center is to preserve, share, and promote the Japanese American culture and heritage and provide for the needs and interests of the Japanese-American community through education and instruction. The center is located at 12448 Braddock Drive in Los Angeles and offers programs, involving arts and crafts, dance, sports, fitness, culture, music, martial arts, religion, and more.
The Venice - Abbot Kinny Memorial Library is part of the Los Angeles Public Library System. The library is located at 501 S. Venice Boulevard in Venice near Marina del Rey. It provides numerous computers, a meeting room, and classes for all age levels.
Venice Skills Center
The Venice Skills Center, located in Venice, California, offers low cost educational opportunities to upgrade job skills or train for a new career in several different fields. Courses are also offered in English as a Second Language.
